Write Your Own (Cook) Book

Authored By Michael Sheridan

Even if you have never thought of it before, there is nothing to stop you writing and publishing your own book on cooking.

You don't even have to be a particularly expert cook. You just need access to the kind of material that people will either be willing to pay for, or would want to download in the case of a freebie.

Is that hard?

Not really.

It could be that you have a collection of recipes that your family have enjoyed over the years. Maybe you make your own pickles, or were brought up with a particular cuisine such as Creole or Spanish.

The point is that no matter what your culinary background, it will be new to someone who has never experienced it. And if there's one thing cooks love, it's a new food experience.

Even if you raely enter the kitchen, I wouldn't mind betting that you have at least one "signature" dish - something that you do exceptionally well and that everyone enjoys.

Can you really sell just one recipe?

Yes!

There is a guy in New Zealand called Geoff Bostock who sells a single recipe for chocolate cake at $5 a pop.

Naturally it's a pretty special recipe and so would yours have to be if you wanted to take that route. But it's a clear illustration of what opportunities there are out there if you're prepared to take advantage of them.

It doesn't matter whether you're from India, Asia, Europe, the United States or the heart of Africa, there are regional dishes familiar to you which would be new and exotic to people who have never encountered them before.

Look at it from another angle.

Are you familiar with diabetic foods? An expert on kid's party stuff? Maybe even on food that kids can cook? Have you forgotten more about dietary requirements for the elderly than most folks will ever know? Do you expertly prepare and pack lunch boxes every day, keeping the food in them nutritious and interesting?

Can you see where all this is going?

If you cook - and maybe even if you don't - you are likely to have information about food that people will find both helpful and interesting. They may also find it valuable. So much so, that you may be surprised by how much you can earn from just one little book.
