How to Get the Maximum from Yahoo

Without forgetting the fact that those that read this article surely know Yahoo better than the corners of their house, I want to show the fact that" exploding" Yahoo in a proper way one can obtain a lot of help to simplify one's life and to make that technology really works for one and his work.

It delights me the form in which the technology can make the life simplest, mainly in this world so busy and with so little time to lose.

I am an engineer, and my work consists on preparing projects, most of the time sitting down in my computer. When one rising a lot of time in the office, attending phone calls, making calls and preparing documents, one begins to need tools.

What a busy man needs?
- An email program, obviously.
- A program that concentrates all his mail accounts, labour, personal, etc.
- A program that maintains him up-to-date with his contacts, both labour and even personal, including address, telephone, etc.
- A calendar for 'don't forget' activities, meetings, calls, presentations to the board, etc.
- An easy way to carry his documents.

All this is very well known by people that work in an office, either that they have many responsibilities or not. These are very common problems, and were mine too. Until I discovered Yahoo.

It was in opportunity of a trip to another country. I had to take several files, I did not have my notebook and I have misled my pen-drive. Then I thought about the possibility of send it to me them to my Yahoo address. That works, clear, but investigating in depth, I discovered that Yahoo has a lot more.

I have an email in Yahoo, but I also have several accounts belonging to my company that are POP3 email. I have mail accounts from some organizations that I belong to, some web-mail and other POP3s. Yahoo allows me to visit my mail from all the accounts, including separate the mails by colour, identifying each address with a different colour stamp.

However, the most important part in the personalization of Yahoo is My Yahoo. There, you can create a beginning page with the most important services that you need.

First, you can see the inbox of all your electronic mail and update it by the input of new messages.

There too you can also maintain your contacts, maintaining up-to-date the data of people that you require more frequently.

On the other hand, you have a shortcut to the handbag that allows you to take files from one place to the other, whenever you have an internet connection. Regrettably, the handbag has been a little small, limited at 30MB, that which is a little bag in these days. However, I suppose that Yahoo will solve this soon. Otherwise, this is very useful to carry an excel files packages, ppt presentations and so on.

In addition, from your beginning page you have access to your markers. Markers are URL addresses that you need to return to at some time. Something similar to the favourite of the IE but better. There you store the URL with an elected name by you. In my case, I use it like a higher filter of my favourite ones.

Of course if you are a yahoo messenger fan, you can easily connect in your home page. I left using messenger, any of them, but most people do.

Additionally, if you are a person that works in a task that requires to keep informed through the media, you can have the news at once of the main world media, with an appropriate filter by topic of interest or inclusive with more intelligent filters. I use it to focus in some country area or state where I am prospecting some clients. (if you go to the neighbor house, you have to know his pet name, isn`t?)

In summary, all these uses combined transform Yahoo and his service My Yahoo in a very appropriate method to be connected from any place in the world as if you are always in your office. There are a lot of features more, but with only these I can manage my time and my work very well.
